Join Parrot Heads of New Mexico Phlock Walkers in the 2007 Walk to Cure Diabetes
Hey Feathered Friends of the Phlock,
I'm writing to tell you that once again the Parrotheads of New Mexico Phlock
Walkers will be walking in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Walk to
Cure Diabetes this year, and to ask you to join the team!
Taking part in the Walk is great experience. Not only will you be making a
real difference in helping to find a cure that will change the lives of
millions... you'll be having FUN, and getting a good workout too! Further, as
members of the Parrotheads of New Mexico, each member is required to
participate in club sponsored community events, and this is a great way to
fulfill that aspect of membership.
First, let me tell you a little about why this cause is so important.
Every year, more than 30,000 new cases of Type 1 diabetes--the most severe
form of the disease--are diagnosed in the United State alone, a large and
growing percentage of them children. Day-to-day living is a challenge for
people with Type 1 diabetes--and multiple insulin injections are only the
beginning. But what's even harder is facing the reality of the devastating
complications that can stem from their condition.
As you can imagine, it's easy for people with Type 1 diabetes to feel that
their future is uncertain. But thanks to research funded by organizations such
as JDRF, people with diabetes have a new sense of hope. Scientists have made
enormous progress, and a cure for Type 1 diabetes is now within reach.
Further, as many of you already know, I and my father have had our lives
altered by Type I diabetes, as well as Jill and Craig Brown's son. After 29
years of being diabetic, I was fortunate enough to recieve a pancreas
transplant in 2003, which ended my dependency on insulin. I continue to have
my life altered by the complications I have experienced from the effects of
diabetes. Now is the time for you and I, together, to help find a cure and
save millions of others from these terrible experiences.
That's why this is such a crucial time, and why I'm asking you to join me in
walking, and raising money that will speed these scientists toward that cure.
Every walker, and every dollar, brings us that much closer.
So please, come join me for this very special day... and a chance to make a
real difference!
We will be walking at Balloon Fiesta Park, Albuquerque, NM on September 15,
2007. You can find out more and sign up at:
